Earaches are more commonly found in children. Adults get them too, but not as often, and usually for different reasons. The pain that accompanies them can be mild to severe; fleeting or constant

Many different products are sold to provide earache relief. These products are found in the form of pills or ear drops. Pills usually include an antibiotic and a pain reliever to help alleviate some of the symptoms and provide earache relief. Ear drops are used to unclog the ear canal and reduce the pressure built up in the middle ear. Be sure to read the labels on these products as they can come with side effects.

Before treating an earache, it is necessary to know what caused it. Some of the causes include swimmers ear, bacterial infections, changes in pressure associated with traveling and prolonged exposure to loud noises. Some of these conditions can be treated at home and will clear up in a day or two. In the cases of a bacterial infection, a doctor should be consulted as soon as possible.

Many effective natural cures can be used to bring about earache relief. Most of the ingredients needed can be found in your kitchen already. The use of some natural herbs and heat can bring immediate relief. Garlic is known to have antibiotic properties and used as an ear drop, it can eliminate infection and reduce the pain. Puncture a clove of garlic and squeeze the juice directly into the ear. Or sauté one clove of garlic in either olive or sesame oil; cool then strain. Use 3-4 drops in affected ear to reduce the pain.

The use of heat, either indirectly or as a compress, can provide immediate relief from the pain of an earache. A blow dryer, set on medium heat, can be used on the sore ear. Hold the dryer far enough away that it does not burn the ear. This treatment should be done for 3-5 minutes for earache relief.

Lavender is an herb that is known for its soothing properties. A good natural remedy for earaches combines lavender, salt and heat. Heat some rock salt in a skillet, not too hot to touch, and then pour into a sock. Add a drop or two of lavender essential oil to the salt and use as a compress on the affected ear.
